Blindsight by Peter Watts
Just finished the novel Blindsight by Peter Watts. This book was insanely good. It is the perfect example of what science fiction, and ONLY science fiction can do. A phenomenal exploration of Consciousness, Biological theory, empathy and emotion... The book fires on all cylinders. It was ambitious in scope, successful in execution, and audacious its implementation...
Peter Watts is my new Science Fiction hero. Kudo's to Tor, Dave Hartwell, and Peter Watts for making this book possible. Oh, and to Kevin, the Tor rep, for conveying his enthusiasm for it last week, which brought it to the top of my not-so-small "to read" pile.
This ones a keeper. If there is any justice in the Universe, it will be on every awards ballot next year. Right now, this is my favorite book of the year. I can't say enough good things about it.
Go buy it, or get it from the library or borrow it or something. You won't be sorry.
Perhaps in a day or so, I'll be able to form a more coherent review of the book. But at this point.. .go read the flap copy(which was remarkably coherent, intriguing and successful, given the complexities of the book). If any of it sounds remotely interesting, read it, cause, like I said, this book delivers the goods.
