Damn. I was expecting to see "Converting Your Shit To D&D" blazened across the cover image...

Ahh, yes. Dragon. I used to write for them. Back then, the pay was good. Hmm, I'll have to see what they did with China's world.

i'd heard about this through a gaming industry friend who is a fan...

i don't doubt that Bas Lag would translate well into gaming, though it deserves better than a one-off treatment for the demon spawn of the Hasborg [D&D produced by TSR->owned by WOTC->owned by Hasbro]. it's too bad that the gaming industry is in such a slump [esp licensed fantasy RPGs], or else i'd love to see it done properly.

still, this could be cause for me to buy a copy of Dragon for the first time in about 15 years...

I don't think TSR even exists anymore on paper.

i was wondering about that, and figured it was quite likely. i haven't really paid attention to the realm of D&D in a long time, and beyond knowing that TSR had been swallowed by WOTC, which then was swallowed by Hasbro...

as much as i now have issues with the (A)D&D systems, it was sad to see TSR go. they were a thread to RPGs' early days and still seemed to care about games and gaming. now, via WOTC and Hasbro, it's about games as a means to profit.

it's sad to see China's Bas Lag implemented by what amounts to the evil, corporate empire of the gaming world.

FWIW, the magazines are published by Paizo, a plucky independent firm that licenses the rights to D&D from the evil, corporate empire of the gaming world.

I'm actually astonished that no one's done this until now.

Very cool. Well for China.

And ironic considering how many fantasy writers began trying to write down their awesome D & D adventures (and if they were smart they didn't admit to it unless drunk.) and still harbor fantasies of introducing characters as level five accountants with +4 software.
