Congratulations America

Poll after poll shows the majority of the country is Pro choice. Yet americans have nearly-continuously elected Anti-abortion presidents to the oval office, thinking the genie could never be put back in the bottle. The first steps down the slippery slope, by a conservative/Anti-abortion dominated Supreme court have now been taken.

A closely divided U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the first nationwide ban on a specific abortion procedure, restricting abortion rights in a ruling on one of the nation's most divisive and politically charged issues.

Hold your flags at half mast, and be ready for a state by state fight on this issue. And be sure to send thank you notes to all of your Democratic senators who refused to stand up to the republicans with a filibuster of Bush's judicial picks.

Virgina Tech and some perspective

Four big bombs exploded across Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least 66 people and wounding nearly 150 as violence climbed toward levels seen before the U.S.-Iraqi campaign to pacify the capital began two months ago.

Virginia Tech sized murders are happening every day in Baghdad.

When one college kid loses his shit and kills 32 people, its a tragedy... evil... unfathomable. All the useless platitudes that are spouted in the wake of such tragedies.

When one president, and his political allies lose their shit and murder over half a million people, its just politics.

I point this out not to try and downplay the tragedy in Virginia. I point it out to emphasize that if this kid is such a monster, what does that make G. W Bush, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitze, and the other architects of this war? What does it make the media cheerleaders at Fox, and CNN and the NY times, and the Wall street Journal, and the entire talking head punditry class?

All these people are fucking monsters... and they make the Virginia tech shooter look like a pick pocket. At least that kid had the decency to commit suicide. The fucking monsters who made Iraq are still pushing themselves every day as perfectly rational, humane and moral standard bearers. Never forget the archetects of the Iraqi atrocithy, and never forget the cheerleaders who made it possible. Never. Fucking. Forget.

Bear witness.

Because sure as shit, 10 years from now, the media and talking head punditry will be talking about how the Iraqi war was lost because there wasn't enough support at home... that democrats and freedom haters destroyed the US war effort. When this happens, I will be screaming at the top of my lungs, just like I was screaming about the bullshit invasion 5 years ago. Please join me... today, and everyday hereafter, in making sure that the blame stays squarely focused where it should be. Because the media, and those who write our history will surely whitewash this mess if we allow them to.

In fact, the Media itself has been whitewashing its critical roll in the pre and post invasion propaganda drive. Fox News is their favorite target right now, but never forget that NPR's Cokie Roberts, and The NY Times Judith Miller were two of the biggest propagandists of the war effort. The Wall street Journal and the Washington Post routinely editorialized in favor of invasion and/or buried stories that were critical of the white houses "intelligence." Don't let these institutions shirk their responsibility. Do not let the politicians who supported this mess go forward and happen on their watch (This means you, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John McCain, and so many others on both sides of the aisle.)

Never forget.
